MSC Teams Continue Winning Ways

Matanuska Soccer Club teams continue to impress as the summer wears on, with several squads picking up impressive victories in the latest round of Alaska summer tournaments.

In all, five more trophies were added to the MSC haul in weeks past, as club teams competed in a pair of tournaments and continued the standard set with the victories in the Ina K Memorial.

Leading the way is MSC United 96, who have dominated the boys U-14 division within Alaska this year. After wrapping up the Ina K title, the 96 boys blew away the competition in Fairbanks, repeating as Midnight Sun champions while hardly breaking a sweat. Then, immediately following their second tournament championship in a row, the boys overcame an opening-round loss to return to the finals of the Far North Invitational in Anchorage, where they again set the championship standard by beating the FFSC 96 boys in penalty kicks, making it 3 for 3 in Alaska tournaments this season.

As they prepare for State Cup, it’s also worthwhile to note the MSC United 96 boys have thus far posted a 10-0 record in Alaska league play this season.

Also picking up tournament titles at both Midnight Sun and Far North was the MSC United 95 boys, who’ve come alive as the summer has progressed and are now well positioned for a run a the Alaska State Cup.

Earning their first tournament championship as a competitive team, the MSC Polaris 99 girls earned top honors in Fairbanks, making the 2009 Midnight Sun the first of many titles to come.
