Sliwa leads way for MSC alums in college

Former MSC standout Jimmy Sliwa recently completed his junior season of soccer at the University of Great Falls, where as a starting defender he helped his team to their first-ever appearance in the NAIA National Championships. Additionally, Sliwa earned recognition as a 2010 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete for his performance in the classroom as well as on the field.

After winning their conference championship over the conference’s #1 seeded Bellevue University (NE), Sliwa and the Argos made their first appearance in the National Tournament, traveling to Tukwila, WA, where they continued the historic postseason run by downing the tournament’s #2 seed, Simon Fraser University (BC). With a berth in the quarterfinals on the line, UGF then traveled to Orange Beach, AL, to take on the University of Science & Art of Oklahoma. In a tense, back-and-forth match, Sliwa and the Argos fought back from 2-0 and then 3-2 down, before losing 4-3 in the first sudden-death overtime period.

Also of note, five former members of the MSC United 92 boys finished their freshmen seasons of varsity college soccer, led by Blaine Carver, who traveled from the Kenai Peninsula to play for the squad and who was recently named GNAC Freshman of the Year for his stellar play, including two hat tricks, while at Seattle Pacific University.
